Aspiring DesignerWith web designing -- as much as I enjoy it now -- I probably would have quit, never had a domain at all, two years ago if I never found a reason to continue. Back then when I discovered personal pages and sites, such as from AsianAvenue and Geocities, I was really amazed and I wanted one for myself. Of course I had no graphic programs back then, knew nothing about HTML and I had to resort to Microsoft Paint and some graphic program that came with my web cam. So sad. Nonetheless, I still continued to design and even improved my web-coding knowledge. Really, I just wanted to design and create graphics, but HTML was sadly required to create a web page, so here I am. The AsianAvenue trend with my friends died down and online journals were the it thing. All my friends had one and sooner or later I got dragged too and created a Xanga journal. Once again I created banners there and kept improving. Soon enough that died as well and I had no reason to continue web designing. Then, one hot summer day (I can't believe I still remember this), I was really into Rikku/Gippal (Final Fantasy X-2) and started Googling. The fanlisting popped up and I was really amazed at the design. Soon enough I discovered the fanlistings' headquarters and I wanted one of my own. The story goes on from there and before I knew it, I bought a domain to keep the amount of fanlistings I had and soon enough creating tributes for my fandom came into play as well. Creating fansites for my favorite characters gave me a reason to design and plus, it made me love them even more (and not to mention, improve my grammar/writing skills :P)! Now to stay on track here, since this wasn't supposed to be my web designing life history, the designing aspect of this whole collective is a top priority issue for me. Without a proper design and let's be realistic here, a site wouldn't be opened. These days, with so much amount of talented web designers out there, it's a bit hard to be original. I'm always trying to create something different. I don't even know what my "style" is half the time and what ever I come up with in Photoshop, just happens. Just because I don't know what my style is, doesn't mean I don't go for one. Contemporary and trendy designs are what I am going for at the moment. My current inspirations is my number one computer space eater: music; magazines with wonderful layouts that I randomly discover in Indigo and a Canadian music channel I watch every now and then. I also get inspired from the advertisements and billboards I see outside. My past art teachers always tell us to keep updated of all the latest trends of anything (fashion, art, music, etc.) and I guess it just comes natural to me now to be aware of all that. Who really knows how long I'll be web designing since it might just be another fad, but hey, it's been four to five years now and this domain isn't going anywhere. Wow, I can keep going here since a woman never seems to shut up, but I'll stop now. If you read all this, Godspeed my friend. :3 |
